Customers pay for use of the applications, often on a subscription basis. Contrast this with traditional software, where customers install and run applications on their own computers or servers. SaaS has been on the rise in recent years as businesses have looked for ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Its abbreviation stands for software as a service.
